Child Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 April 2025
Introduction
Quralingo is a Quran language-learning app designed for users of all ages, including both children and adults. While Quralingo is not exclusively targeted at children under 13, we recognize that children may use the app under adult supervision. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our young users and ensuring that our practices comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
This Children’s Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from children under 13, how we use and protect that information, and the rights parents have regarding their child’s data. By using Quralingo, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information Collected from Children Under 13
We collect only a minimal amount of personal information from children under 13, strictly what is necessary to create an account and use Quralingo. Specifically, the information we collect includes:
- Name (this can be a nickname or alias; it does not have to be the child’s real name)
- Email address (for children under 13, we use a parent or guardian’s email for the account)
We do not ask for any other personal details from a child. For example, we do not collect addresses, phone numbers, photos, or payment information from children. Additionally, Quralingo does not allow children to share personal information publicly within the app (there are no public profiles or open chat functions for users). We only request the minimum information needed and do not condition a child’s participation on providing more personal data than is reasonably required.
Parental Consent Procedures
In compliance with COPPA, we seek to obtain a parent or guardian’s consent for children under 13 who use Quralingo. Currently, during the sign-up process, we require a parent or guardian’s email address for any user identified as under 13. We send a notification email to that address to inform the parent about their child’s Quralingo account and to request confirmation of consent. At present, we do not verify parental consent beyond this email confirmation step.
If a parent or guardian does not respond to the consent email or does not approve, the child’s account may be limited or removed. The parent can also request removal of the account and associated data at any time (see the “Parental Rights” section below). Right now, the only way to remove a child’s data is by submitting a deletion request to us via
email or through our account
deletion form.
We are continually working to improve our parental consent process. In future updates, Quralingo plans to introduce family accounts and more robust verification methods. For example, we may offer an option for parents to verify their identity and consent through an approved method such as a small credit card transaction, consistent with COPPA guidelines. These planned features will provide additional assurance that the person giving permission is a legitimate parent or guardian, thereby strengthening the protection of children’s privacy.
Use and Disclosure of Children’s Data
We use the personal information collected from children under 13 solely to provide and improve the Quralingo service. This includes:
- Account creation and login: We use the name and email to set up the child’s user account and authenticate their access to Quralingo.
- Progress tracking: We keep track of the child’s learning progress, such as completed lessons and earned badges, which is tied to their account so they can resume where they left off and see their achievements.
- Optional notifications: If enabled, we may use the email address to send educational updates or reminders related to Quralingo (for example, a reminder to practice or information about new learning content). These communications are optional and can be turned off at any time by the parent or through account settings.
We do not use children’s personal data for any other purposes. In particular, we do not sell, rent, or share the personal information of children with third parties for advertising or marketing. We may share information only when it is necessary to operate our service – for example, using a secure cloud service to store data or an email service to send account-related messages – and in such cases we ensure that these service providers are bound to protect the data and use it only for the services we request. Quralingo does not display third-party ads and does not share children’s information with any external parties beyond what is needed to support the internal functionality of the app.
Parental Rights
We want parents and guardians to have control over their child’s personal information. Under COPPA and GDPR, parents have the right to review the personal information collected from their child, have it deleted, and refuse further collection or use of that information. In addition, parents can request corrections or updates if any information is inaccurate.
If you are a parent or guardian, you can do the following at any time:
- Review or Access Data: You can ask us to provide a copy of the personal information we have collected about your child.
- Request Deletion: You can request that we delete your child’s account and remove all personal information associated with it from our records.
- Request Corrections: If any personal information about your child is incorrect, you can request that we update it.
- Refuse Further Collection: You may withdraw consent and refuse any further collection or use of your child’s information. This will typically involve deleting the child’s account to prevent any future data collection.
To exercise any of these rights, or if you have questions about your child’s information, please contact us at
privacy@quralingo.app. You can also submit a request through our
account deletion form on the Quralingo website (available in the account settings or privacy section). We will take steps to verify that you are the child’s parent or guardian before fulfilling such requests. Once verified, we will promptly honor your request in accordance with applicable laws and our internal procedures.
Data Retention and Security
Quralingo retains children’s personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected (for example, to maintain the child’s account and learning progress). We do not yet have a formal schedule for deleting inactive accounts or data after a set period, but we are committed to implementing proper data retention policies in the near future to ensure we do not keep personal data longer than needed.
We take the security of your child’s data seriously. Quralingo implements basic security measures to safeguard personal information. For instance, data entered into the app is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on secure servers.
However, we acknowledge that our current practices do not include some advanced security features. For example, we have not yet implemented advanced encryption for data while it is stored on our servers (encryption at rest). As we continue to develop Quralingo, we are committed to enhancing our security protocols and infrastructure. Our upcoming releases will incorporate more robust data protection measures, including improved encryption and regular security audits, to better protect children’s personal information. Despite not having these advanced measures in place yet, we strive to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the data we hold and protect it against unauthorized access or disclosure.
In summary, while Quralingo’s current data protection measures meet basic standards, we are actively working on improvements. We will update this policy and notify users (including parents) as we implement new data retention and security practices, so you are always aware of how your child’s information is being protected.
