Cookie Policy
Last updated: 25 April 2025
This Cookie Policy explains how Quralingo ("we", "our", or "us") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website and mobile application. We use these technologies to improve user experience, analyze performance, and for marketing purposes. We are committed to handling any personal data collected via these technologies in accordance with the EU ePrivacy Directive and the GDPR.
By using Quralingo’s website or app, you can choose which cookies or trackers you allow. You have the right to adjust your consent at any time. This policy details the types of cookies and trackers we use, their purposes, and how you can manage your preferences. For any questions, please contact us at privacy@quralingo.app.
Types of Cookies and Trackers We Use
We use cookies on our website and similar tracking technologies in our mobile app. These fall into the following categories:
- Strictly Necessary Cookies: These cookies are essential for our website’s core functionality. They enable features like user logins, security, and network management. Without these, the website cannot function properly. (These cookies are always active and do not require consent under the law.)
- Functional Cookies: These cookies allow us to remember your choices and preferences (such as language selection or font size) to provide enhanced, personalized features. They improve your experience but are not strictly required for basic operation.
- Analytics Cookies: These cookies (and similar app trackers) collect information about how visitors use our site and app. We use them to understand traffic patterns and user interactions. For example, we utilize analytics tools to see which pages are popular or how often the app is used. All data collected is aggregated and used to improve our services.
- Marketing Cookies: These cookies track your online activity to help us deliver more relevant advertisements or measure the effectiveness of our marketing. On our website, marketing cookies (like the Facebook Pixel) help us understand when you visit Quralingo after seeing an ad and to retarget content that might interest you. We do not use marketing trackers in our mobile app, only on the website.
Purpose of Each Cookie Category
Each category of cookies and trackers serves a specific purpose:
- Strictly Necessary: To ensure the website and app deliver the services you explicitly request. For instance, keeping you logged in or loading essential resources. These are deployed to maintain basic functionality and security.
- Functional: To enhance user experience by remembering your preferences and settings. For example, a functional cookie might remember that you prefer a certain language or that you have muted background audio, so you don’t have to set it every time.
- Analytics: To understand user behavior and improve our platform. Analytics tools gather data on page visits, time spent, and app feature usage. This helps us identify what content is engaging or if users encounter problems, so we can improve Quralingo for everyone.
- Marketing: To personalize advertising and measure campaign effectiveness on our website. Marketing cookies help us show relevant ads on external platforms (like Facebook) to users who have shown interest in Quralingo. They also let us know if our ads led you to sign up or engage with our site. (Marketing cookies are not used in the Quralingo app.)
Third-Party Cookies and Trackers
We use some third-party services that set their own cookies or use tracking technologies. These third parties have their own privacy policies, but we list them here for transparency:
-
Google Analytics (Website and App): We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized statistics about how users interact with Quralingo. On the website, Google Analytics places cookies (such as
_ga
) on your browser to gather information like your IP address (which we anonymize), pages visited, and time spent. In the mobile app, Google Analytics (via the Firebase Analytics SDK) uses a mobile identifier rather than cookies to track usage. This data helps us improve content and user experience. For more details, you can review Google’s Cookie Policy.
-
OneSignal (App Only): Our mobile app uses OneSignal to manage push notifications (for example, to remind you of new lessons or updates). OneSignal may collect device information (such as device ID, operating system, and push token) to send notifications to the correct device. We do not use OneSignal on the website. However, if you sign up on our website and provide an email, we may manually sync your email address to OneSignal so that we can recognize you on the app for notifications. OneSignal does not set traditional cookies in the app, but it handles personal data (like push tokens and, if provided, your email) under its own privacy practices. Learn more in the OneSignal Privacy Policy.
-
Facebook Pixel (Website Only): The Facebook Pixel is integrated into our website to help us with advertising analytics. It sets a small number of cookies (for example,
_fbp
) that track when you visit our site and what actions you take (like clicking a sign-up link). This information is sent to Facebook and allows us to measure the effectiveness of our ads on Facebook/Instagram. For instance, it helps us know if someone who saw a Quralingo ad later signed up on our site. The Facebook Pixel also helps in creating audiences for our ads (so we show ads to people likely to be interested in Quralingo). You can read more in the Facebook Cookies & Pixel Policy. We do not use the Facebook Pixel or any similar advertising trackers in the mobile app.
Managing and Withdrawing Consent
Your Choices: You have control over whether non-essential cookies and trackers are used. When you first visit our website or install our app, we will ask for your consent to enable certain categories (like Analytics or Marketing). Here’s how you can manage or withdraw your consent later:
- On the Website: A cookie consent banner will appear on your first visit. You can choose “Accept All” to allow all cookie categories, or “Reject” / “Manage Preferences” to refuse or selectively allow categories like Analytics and Marketing. If you initially consented but later change your mind, you can find a “Cookie Settings” link (for example, in our website footer) at any time. Clicking that link will reopen the consent preferences, allowing you to change which cookies are active. You can also remove cookies via your browser settings (most browsers let you delete cookies or block them for specific sites). Keep in mind, disabling certain cookies may impact some features of the site (for instance, we won’t remember your preferences or gather analytics data after you opt out).
- On the Mobile App: When you first launch the Quralingo app, we will present a privacy prompt or settings screen. This will ask for your permission to enable analytics tracking and to receive push notifications. Analytics Tracking: You can choose to allow or decline analytics in the app; if declined, the app will not send analytical usage data (and we will respect that choice by not initiating Google Analytics in the app). Push Notifications: The first time the app wants to send you notifications, your device’s OS will ask for your permission. If you grant it, you’ll receive notifications; if you deny it, we won’t send push notifications. You can always change these settings later. For analytics, there will be an option in the app’s settings (such as a toggle for “Share usage analytics”) which you can turn off or on at any time. For notifications, you can adjust permissions in your device settings (for example, in iOS or Android notification settings for the Quralingo app, you can disable notifications).
Withdrawal of Consent: If you withdraw consent for a category of cookies/trackers, we will stop collecting new data from those tools. (Note: If you disable Analytics, for example, new analytics data won’t be sent, but previously collected aggregate data may still be part of our overall statistics. If you disable Marketing cookies, our site will cease using the Facebook Pixel for your visits going forward.) You can also contact us at privacy@quralingo.app if you need assistance with changing your preferences.
Compliance with EU Law (ePrivacy and GDPR)
We abide by the EU ePrivacy Directive and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in our use of cookies and trackers. This means:
- Consent First: We will not set or use non-essential cookies or app trackers (Analytics, Marketing, etc.) without your prior consent. On the website, the consent banner ensures no Analytics/Marketing cookies are dropped until you choose. In the app, analytics and push notifications are opt-in.
- Transparency: We inform you clearly about what cookies and trackers are in use and why (through this policy and the consent prompts). You can always refer to this Cookie Policy for details on each tool and its purpose.
- Data Protection: Any personal data collected via these cookies/trackers (such as an IP address, device ID, or email if provided to OneSignal) is handled securely and only used for the stated purposes. We treat such data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and GDPR principles, meaning we apply appropriate security measures and only retain the data as long as necessary.
- User Rights: Under GDPR, you have rights regarding your personal data. While this Cookie Policy mainly covers how we use tracking technologies, remember that you can request access to your data, ask for corrections, or even deletion of data collected via cookies where applicable. If you have concerns about personal data collected by a cookie or tracker, you can reach out to us at our privacy contact (see below) for assistance.
In summary, we strive to be fully compliant: we only use non-essential cookies with consent, we keep you informed, and we protect the data we collect.
